You don't have to be crazy to riff here...but it helps!

If you’re here you’re wondering just who the hell we are. Well, my friend, here’s our story:
My brother Ben and I have been fans of MST3K since it started playing on the Sci-Fi Channel. We find this kind of shameful since we’re lifelong Minnesotans. It seems like we could have known about MST3K a lot earlier than we did.
Anyway, we were thrilled when Mike Nelson opened Rifftrax.com in 2006 and even more thrilled that movie riffing now seems more popular than it ever has been.
For years my brother and I would kick around the idea of starting up our own fan riffs. We’d get as far as throwing out some titles of movies that we’d like to riff before putting the idea aside as being too much work.
Yeah, we’re real go-getters.
But in August 2008 we decided to put our feet down and actually attempt a fan riff. We then had to come up with our first movie to riff. After about 10 minutes of skimming through our DVD collections we settled on Halloween 2.
Halloween 2 is a funny choice for us because we both really love the movie and consider it a great horror film. But, we’d be blind if we didn’t see the riffing potential in it.
After that we wanted to include something in our riffs that would separate us from the other fan riffs. Sideswipe (Christian King) of the Rifftrax message boards suggested a storyline for our intros. I thought it was a great idea and I came up with the idea of playing characters in a video store that would make fun of the movies that play on the TVs. The Movie Asylum was born.
After having Steve-O (Steve Lutz) of the Rifftrax forum guest riff on Halloween 2 I looked up an old high school friend to help my brother and I perform in our future riffings. That man is Casey Tripp. Casey is also a MST3K/Rifftrax fan and is just a really funny guy all around. In other words, he’s a perfect fit for our riffing squad.
After a couple of episodes we got some feedback saying that our storyline intros felt forced. So, even though statistically only a minority of you complained about our intros, we feel that your opinion is just as important as the silent majority (Unlike Rifftrax.com on a certain issue…). So, starting with Xanadu we won’t have any storylines in our intros anymore.
There you have it. A long winded description of who we are and what we’re doing here. If you’d like to see our specific work on each film, please look below. Thank you!
